Central Office - Human Resources/Sec to Business Manager
I am a third year teacher for the Atlantic Iowa School District. I graduated from Buena Vista University in December 2015. I have an Elementary Education degree with endorsements in Reading K-8 and Middle School 5-8. My middle school concentrations are social studies and science. I teach 5th grade at Schuler Elementary.
This is my 5th year here in Atlantic! I am so excited to be teaching 1st grade in the Atlantic Community School system. I absolutely loved helping my students strive to be life long learners. My husband, Kevin and I have three daughters Payton (21), Karsyn (17), and Ava (13). We live in Griswold, Iowa, where my husband farms with his family. I enjoy attending sporting events and spending time with friends and family! I'm looking forward to another amazing year!!!
I am employed part-time at Atlantic Middle School. Generally, my scheduled work days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. It works well to leave a message with the office if you are not able to reach me.
My background is school social work. I have enjoyed working in various districts in Southwest Iowa for almost 25 years. As a Student Advocate, I work with students to help them become more successful in school. A key part of that success is working with the parents as well.
This is my eighth year teaching Preschool in ACSD. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA's in both Elementary and Early Childhood Education and minors in Special Education and Literacy. I just completed my Master's in Special Education at the University of Nebraska - Omaha.
I have worked in the Atlantic Community School District for 5 years, as a Para-Educator, in various capacities. Currently, I am assisting high school students in a new program called Student Support Services. This program allows students to sign out from a study hall for help with homework, organizational skills, and to stay current on their grades.
Goals of the program are to help students succeed and become learners, reduce D and F lists, reduce the at-risk students and drop out rate, connect with students, and establish relationships.
Please feel free to contact me if you feel your student could benefit from this program.
