WELCOME TO ATLANTIC HIGH SCHOOL
Atlantic High School is comprised of educators who strive to make an IMPACT every day. Our educators lead our students with integrity, motivation, professionalism, accountability, caring attitudes and teamwork. We are dedicated to our district’s mission:
The Atlantic Community School District will prepare all learners to be creative, innovative and productive citizens by providing diverse opportunities to learn and apply relevant skills and knowledge in a positive, disciplined and challenging environment.
Students have numerous opportunities to excel at AHS. Students are not only afforded strong learning in each of the core departments (English, mathematics, science and social studies), but also a wide variety of others:
- Fine Arts (Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Visual Arts)
- Career Technical Education (Vocational Agriculture, Industrial Technology, Family and Consumer Sciences, Business)
- Foreign Language study of Spanish
- Physical Education/Weight Training and Health
Activities/Athletics (band, choir and show choir, speech, debate, forensics, journalism with online newspaper, online video news, and yearbook, swimming, cross country, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, archery, cheerleading, AHS Fuel, Student Council, Silver Cord, National Honor Society, FFA, Spanish Club, dance team, tennis, golf, track, soccer, baseball, softball)
Challenging our students academically is commonplace in every classroom. Atlantic High School offers several Advanced Placement courses in a variety of areas: AP Music Theory, AP Art Studio, AP US History, AP US Government as well as additional courses via online resources. We also partner with Iowa Western Community College for concurrent and dual enrollment courses, and with Iowa Central Community College for Post-Secondary Enrollment Options.
Atlantic High School, a member of the Hawkeye 10 Conference in Southwest Iowa, is located seven miles south of I-80, approximately half-way between Council Bluffs and Des Moines, at the junction of US HWY 6 and US HWY 71.
